"We recently purchased a home in Cle Elum that the previous owners had insured with State Farm. As longtime SF customers in Arizona (with no claims history), we were confident that SF would continue insuring the home. SF even gave us temporary coverage to use for our mortgage application. We were told a fire inspection was still required. We assumed this was a mere formality since the house was previously insured by SF. After three weeks without any communication or updates, we reached out for a status report. We were declined coverage. The house was insured by SF before we bought it, but SF declined coverage after we bought it? Our story gets curiouser. We found out that the house right next to ours had their SF coverage canceled recently. If they just canceled the house next to ours, there was no way they were going to approve our application. So why the unnecessary charade? Cle Elum State Farm cost us three weeks that we could have used looking for other insurance instead of awaiting a decision that was clearly a foregone conclusion. Honesty is always the best policy."

Navigating insurance for homes in wildfire areas can be challenging, and we do our very best to be upfront and honest throughout the process. Neighboring homes may have been written before any boundary changes occurred, and having prior insurance with State Farm does not guarantee approval for a new home for many reasons, including wildfire guidelines, conditions of the home, liability issues, and other factors. We strive to be as transparent as possible. Please understand that these decisions are not made in our office but are determined by the results of the survey and underwriting review. We appreciate your feedback as we continue to review our processes."
